The international meeting entitled: “Digital connectivity and the Mediterranean: investment opportunities, innovation and sustainable development”, promoted within the framework of the European Global Gateway project, took place in Palermo on January 22, 2025. The event organized at the Marina Convention Center in Palermo by the Ministries of Enterprise and Made in Italy and Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the European Union platform Digital for development (D4D) hub, saw the participation of international speakers from all over Europe, from African governments and from the European Commission. The institutional greetings were given by the President of the Sicily Region Renato Schifani, and the Mayor of Palermo Roberto Lagalla. The meeting was opened by: the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy Adelfio Urso, Stefano Sannino, Director General DG MENA of the European Commission, Pasi Hellman under Secretary of State for Development Policy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, moderated by the journalist of “Il Sole 24 Ore” Nino Amadore. Three thematic sessions of the international meeting: “Connecting The European Union and the Mediterranean”, the “Major Digital Connectivity projects”, and the “International Partnerships”. This last section saw the intervention of Walid Al Lafi, Minister of State of Libya for Communication and Political Affairs.

In the video interview given to our newspaper he declared:

«For the second time I am here in Palermo and I am very happy today to be involved in this very important event. Everyone knew the strong relationship between our two governments, Libya and Italy. And we look forward to further strengthening this relationship in all areas, in all fields, especially in communication, especially in digital services or e-government. And we look forward to having great benefits between our two cooperations between the two sides. Thank you».
